Thomas Sander's Northwestern Family Legacy

Thomas Sander shares a sibling legacy at Northwestern. For Thomas, this legacy at Northwestern Oklahoma State University began with his older sister, Carmen Cumpston. In 2011, she was crowned Miss Northwestern before graduating with honors in 2014. With a degree in chemistry, Carmen continued her education at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) in Oklahoma City, Okla., graduating in 2016. Currently, she is a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) in Enid, Okla., with her own clinic.

Recognized as a National Merit Scholar in 2016 and the youngest of the Sander siblings, Darci follows Thomas and Carmen in both the medical field and academic achievement. She graduated from Northwestern in May 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. Darci is applying to the College of Medicine at the OUHSC to become a medical doctor with a specialization in either obstetrics and gynecology or orthopedic surgery.

Thomas graduated in May 2017 with a biology major and psychology minor. He excelled in his studies, earning several awards and scholarships. At Northwestern, he was an active participant in clubs as a member of the Medical Sciences Club and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry. He played for the Rangers baseball team. He also served on the Athletic Advisory Board and was a member of the President’s Leadership Class his freshman year. He was a four-year member of the President’s Honor Roll, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.

In addition, he gained more than 100 hours of shadowing experience in his goal to be a physician associate. Thomas currently attends the Physician Associate Program at the OUHSC.
