Metcalfs Establish Scholarship

Verne Metcalf believes in Northwestern Oklahoma State University. A native of Alfalfa County, Metcalf says, “Northwestern adds much value to this area of Oklahoma.”

Verne graduated from Jet (Okla.) High School and then pursued a degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Gloria is from Hennessey, Okla., where she graduated from high school. Gloria earned her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University.

Having grown up in Northwest Oklahoma, Northwestern is very important to Verne and Gloria. In creating this scholarship, their wish is to make it easier for students to pay their school expenses.
“Verne and Gloria Metcalf have been quietly and generously giving to Northwestern for quite some time,” said Skeeter Bird, CEO, Northwestern Foundation & Alumni Association. “Both of them realize how important Northwestern Oklahoma State University and our students are to our local community and economy. It is a privilege to have their endowed scholarship at Northwestern supporting students from Alfalfa County.”

Applicants for the Alfalfa County Scholarship must be full-time continuing students from Alfalfa County with a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average. To be considered, students must complete the scholarship application form through the Financial Aid Office on any Northwestern campus. The scholarship may be applied toward university-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
