Beisel Family Legacy Includes Impact on Math Education

The Beisel Family Chair in Mathematics was established to provide funding for a faculty position in the Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. With its intent to fund additional faculty salaries, the Beisel Family Chair in Mathematics also assists with pedagogical and performance equipment needs, enhancement of outside speaker opportunities for mathematics students and enhancement of the quality of Mathematics education for Northwestern students through faculty development.

The Beisel family has left a legacy of love for education. Ida Margaret Evans established this Endowed Chair to honor the legacy of her family, who has accrued 11 degrees from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. The Northwestern graduates include Victor Beisel, Alvina Beisel Murley, Victor Aaron Beisel, Lisa Marie Beisel Plante, John Ray Evans and Ida Margaret Evans. John Ray Evans obtained four undergraduate degrees. Ida Margaret Evans obtained undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science and Secondary Education, as well as a Master of Science degree with a mathematics emphasis from Northwestern.

“Ida is a great believer in the value of education,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, Northwestern Oklahoma State University President. “She has continued the legacy of giving that her family established. Northwestern students are directly impacted because of her generosity.”
