Dr. Troy Smith, a 1976 graduate, is an optometrist practicing in Alva. Originally from Turpin, he enjoys gardening and yard work, cars and golf. Smith, whose favorite memory of college is leftover night with friends, said his Northwestern education has been valuable.

"It got me into graduate school and had me prepared for it thanks to the physics and biology instructors," he said.

 

KANDEE ALMGREN

Kandee Almgren, a 1995 Northwestern graduate from Alva, is a secondary English teacher and librarian. Her hobbies include reading, attending her students' events and working with the Alpha Sigma Alpha chapter on campus.

Almgren was in the band during her time at Northwestern, and she still remains friends with many former band members. Scholarships allowed her to receive an outstanding education at Northwestern, a place she still feels at home.

 

 

JOHN ALLEN
Secretary/Treasurer

Allen comes to the Foundation and Alumni Association with over thirty years of experience in global public relations, marketing, government relations and crisis management. Most recently, he was the Director of Public Relations at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  Originally from Hardtner, Kan., Allen earned his Bachelor of Science in Education degree in English/Journalism from Pittsburg State University.  His wife, Dawn, is an adjunct professor of English at Northwestern.

 

Judy Wolgamott

JUDY WOLGAMOTT

Judy Wolgamott, originally from Hardtner, Kan., graduated from Northwestern with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 1967. She received her master's degree in education in 1974. During her teaching tenure, she taught in Medicine Lodge, Kan., Fort Supply, Fargo, Woodward and Mustang. She also taught extension classes for Northwestern while living in Woodward. Wolgamott retired from teaching in 1997. Currently, she lives in Stillwater and is employed with The American Education Corporation, an educational software company in Oklahoma City.

Fond memories of caring faculty and friends at Northwestern have always been an inspiration to Wolgamott, and she hopes to continue this connection by serving on the alumni board. Go Rangers! 

 

RODNEY DUNKIN
Alva, OK

Dunkin earned his Bachelor of Education degree from Northwestern in 1963 after graduating from Barnsdall High School in 1959. 

He and his wife, Cecie, have been married for 25 years, and he has two adult children, Kellie and Ryan, and one grandchild, Cole Ryan Dunkin.

 

Dick Finton

DICK FINTON
Ponca City, OK

Dick Finton received his speech theatre education degree in 1962 and his master’s of education in 1967 from Northwestern State College. He completed additional graduate work at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and Pittsburg State University. Finton taught and coached in higher education 36 years and 12 years in secondary education.

He coached three all-Americans and 17 professional tennis players. He was co-founder of the National Education Debate Association and Great Plains Forensic Association and founder of Oklahoma Junior College Speech Association. Finton was recognized by Oklahoma Speech Theatre Communication Association as Outstanding Collegiate Coach in 1995 and 2000 and received the Josh Lee Service Award by the Oklahoma Speech Theatre Communication Association in 2001. He was Tennis Coach of the Year four times in the Volunteer Athletic Conference and the Tennessee Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for four years. He was on the NAIA Tennis Committee for 12 years and served as national president for the NAIA Tennis Coaches Association for one year. He received the Outstanding Educator of America, NISOD Excellence Award and Distinguished Faculty of Northern Oklahoma College. He is currently retired and resides in Ponca City with his wife, Janice.  

 

Karen Stephenson

KAREN STEPHENSON
Greater Woodward Alumni Representative
Woodward, OK

Originally from Mutual, Karen (Borden) Stephenson graduated from Northwestern in 1978 with a major in business education and a minor in vocal music. She now works as a compliance officer at The Stock Exchange Bank in Woodward and as the organist at the First United Methodist Church in Woodward.

Stephenson enjoys reading, singing in the church choir and participating in community theatre and musicals. She currently serves as treasurer for the Northwestern Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross Board of Directors. Her favorite memory of Northwestern is making lifelong friendships and feeling like part of a family.

  

Sherry Ward

SHERRY WARD
Alumni Nursing Representative
Pratt, KS

Originally from Alva, Sherry (Cushenbery) Ward graduated from Northwestern in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is currently a nursing instructor and department chair at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kan. For eight years, she worked at Northwestern as the college health nurse. In her free time, she enjoys reading and hanging out with her husband, two kids and four dogs. Her favorite memories from her college days are working on the Alva ambulance and having fun with the other students in the nursing program, Ward said. 

“NWOSU has always been a part of my life,” she said.

 

  Dennis Wilson

DENNIS WILSON
Greater Enid Alumni Representative
Enid, OK

Dennis Wilson, of Enid, graduated from Northwestern in 1971.  He is a state certified general real estate appraiser and enjoys fishing and traveling. Wilson remembers fun, crazy times at Northwestern and the friendships he made while a student. Northwestern was part of the foundation of who he is now. During his college days, he lettered in football and his wife, Vicki, can be seen wearing his letter sweater to alumni events. He was also the first man to hold the Cinderfella title.

 

TISHA SHIPLEY
Alumni Cheer Representative
Fort Smith, AR

Tisha Shipley, a 2003 graduate of Northwestern. is a former instructor at Northwestern. She completed her doctorate and now serves as director of preschool programs at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. 

She spends her free time shopping, reading and spending time with her family. Her favorite part about attending Northwestern was meeting friends who she still keeps in touch with. "When you attend Northwestern, you are always a person that stands out in a crowd," Shipley said.
