A Passion for Education Results in Scholarship

The Ida Margaret Evans Scholarship was established to support a Northwestern Oklahoma State University student who is majoring in mathematics, mathematics education or computer science. The scholarship honors Ida Margaret Evans and her contribution to education.

Ida has a passion for Northwestern Oklahoma State University, beginning with earning multiple degrees during her time at the Alva campus. These degrees include mathematics and computer science, Master of Science in Education with a mathematics emphasis, as well as her secondary education degree.

Ida is a long-time advocate for Northwestern, and multiple family members are alumni. Ida’s expertise in mathematics and zeal for learning are shown in many ways in her personal life, including tutoring area students.

“If you want a place that really cares, come here,” Evans offers to students. “That’s not just restricted to staff and faculty, but it’s a community too. If you want to be taken care of, if you want people to bend over backwards to make sure you succeed in whatever it is you’re going to do, come here.

“This scholarship is an investment in the future. What is more important to the town, the state, the country, and humankind in general than the education of its students?”

“Ida Evans has been a wonderful supporter of Northwestern Oklahoma State University,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, Northwestern Oklahoma State University President. “She quietly goes about making a difference in many ways and she can always be counted on to support a worthy cause that impacts students.”

Applicants for the Ida Margaret Evans Scholarship must be full-time continuing students majoring in mathematics, mathematics education or computer science with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. To be considered, students must complete the scholarship application form through the Financial Aid Office on any Northwestern campus. The scholarship may be applied toward university-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, and room and board.
